What you'll learn

Choice Career Tech Electronic Healthcare Records program is a course that runs for 14 weeks. Students will engage in a stimulating range of learning activities that include how to manage health information, in both paper and electronic format, numbering and filing systems, record storage and circulation, health care delivery systems, health care settings, health data collection, coding and reimbursements, and legal aspects. Career Development is also obtained throughout the program.

The Healthcare employee with Electronic Healthcare Record training performs routine clerical and organizational tasks of documenting, transmitting, and securing patient information. Performing patient record audits for government or insurance requirements, processing Release of Information (ROI) requests for medical records. The nation is entering a new era of health care where providers must use electronic health records to improve patients’ health and the way health care is delivered in this country. Healthcare employees with EHR training may find employment in hospitals, chiropractors, and medical and dental offices.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall employment of medical records and health information specialists is projected to grow 9 percent from 2020 to 2030, about as fast as the average for all occupations. About 34,300 openings for medical records and health information specialists are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire.

The Electronic Health Record student will complete instructional and simulation laboratory procedures for a period of up to 14 weeks in length. Successful completion of all courses is required to receive a program certificate of completion.
